What is the IELTS test like?

You can take the test in either Academic or General Training mode. The Listening and Speaking parts are the same for all candidates. IELTS Academic is more difficult than the regular version. The IELTS Academic test is designed for students who intend to study at a university or in an English-speaking setting (higher education). IELTS Academic can also be used for professional registration.

The test is divided into four sections:

• Listening - 4 sections, 40 questions, 30 minutes
• Speaking - interview, 11-14 minutes
• Reading - different for Academic or General Training - 3 sections, 40 questions, 60 minutes
• Writing - different for Academic or General Training - 2 pieces of writing, 60 minutes

Make an appointment with the nearest testing centre. IELTS on computer (Academic and General Training) is currently offered at numerous UK test centres, with frequent dates. There are more test dates available with IELTS on computer, and you can take your test up to seven days a week and obtain your results in three to five days.

How much does it cost to take IELTS?

Fees are determined by test centres and vary by country. Expect to pay roughly £170-195 GBP, €225 Euros, or $245 USD for IELTS Academic and General Training.
