7 Types of Communication Skills – Verbal, Non-Verbal

If I ask you what the most important talents you should learn, you will tell me.

Then you'll probably say things like swimming, cooking, and so on.

Yes, these are critical skills as well, but there is another skill that is just as important.

Communication skills are also regarded to be a life skill.

There are many types of communication skills that we use in our daily lives; every communication skill has its own importance.

It's likely that the majority of you don't consider it a skill.

Most people will argue that there is nothing remarkable about communicating with someone.

What makes us think of it as a skill?

However, this is incorrect; communication is a talent that can be learned and improved, and it may have a significant impact on your life.

To live a fulfilling life, you must constantly communicate with others, and simply speaking is insufficient.

What is Communication Skill?

The term "communication competence" does not have a definition that fully explains what it means.

Communication talent, according to some, is a form of skill that allows you to more effectively convey your feelings or emotions.

Some argue, on the other hand, that it is a skill that demonstrates how much attention you can get from others by speaking with them.

Both definitions are diametrically opposed, but they are attempting to convey the same point.

What are the 7 types of Communication Skills?

The following is an explanation of those types and an example of each.

Below, I will share with you seven types of communication skills:

Verbal Communication

Communication is the most fundamental type of skill.

Everybody uses this method to communicate with others; even you do so as well.

Verbal communication is known as the communication which we do with the help of words.

Non-verbal Communication

In spite of its name, this communication skill is the opposite of verbal communication.

We communicate with other people without words when we employ this type of communication skill.

So, now you may wonder, if we are not using words, then how can we communicate?

When we use non-verbal communication, facial expressions, eye contact, gestures or postures are used to convey our message.

As a result, non-verbal communication can be defined as a type of communication that uses gestures, expressions, or posture to communicate with others.

Written Communication

One of the types of communication skills is written communication.

In this communication skill, we communicate with other people by writing words.

As long as we are writing and sending our message using some form of written communication, it will be considered as written communication.

It includes a lot of examples, including writing letters, emails, and messages.

Oral Communication

Oral communication refers to communication that takes place through the mouth.

It is a form of communication in which we communicate through speech.

This is the most widely used method of communication.

Face-to-face interactions, TV reporters, and group discussions are all instances of oral communication. Speeches on stage, etc.

Many other examples of spoken communication can be found in your immediate surroundings.

Active Listening

Although most of you will certainly disagree, active listening is one of the most crucial forms of communication abilities.

Active listening, as the name implies, entails paying full attention to other people.

It's not the same as hearing someone for the first time.

This requires you to pay whole attention to the other person and to comprehend their ideas and feelings.

Conclusion

So that was the blog post about different forms of communication abilities.

In this article, I've discussed the various sorts of communication skills.
